ITEM OF THE WEEK Your eyes focus across the barracks, it's quite, it's early morning, and you know the horn is going to blare soon. On cue, it does, you quickly jump out of bed with your mates, and scramble to get dressed. A simple white top is pulled over your head followed by the beige colored chino twill pant. Part of the uniform assigned to you along with black combat boots. In the mid-19th century, chino twill cloth was developed for British and French military personnel as part of their standard issue uniforms. It was designed for soldiers so that they could be comfortable but durable enough to last through their service. The British and American military began to use chinos as part of their dressage in the late 1800s. Soon it migrated into civilian wear, it became mainstream and the military earth tone colors began to migrate towards camouflage. The khaki color is still the most favored color for chinos but they are currently made in all shades, you'll find all sorts of shades of blue, green, gray (grey), white, brown, and even black. The term "chino" is controversial on its origins, some say that it comes from the Spanish word "chino" that means toasted because of the color while others will dispute it and say that it originates from its country of origin China. Whatever the case of its name origin, it's one of the most popular styles of trousers worn today and still favored in light beige/khaki. This particular pair is mildly distressed on the bottom but still sports that chino characteristic color and the pocket bags are even stamped "U.S. Standard Chino" with a description on the inside. The dark buttons are a nice contrast and it has a button fly so no zippers here! We positive you're going to love a pair of chinos in the summer time but always remember that they measure about 3-4" larger than tagged size. It's just how they're made, over-sized for that nice "airy" and comfortable fit! Need one for your bottom? Here you go: RRL Officer Chino |
