ITEM OF THE WEEK Once again you find yourself staring at the compound, soldiers marched in lines from end to the other in training, and you found yourself at a desk. Simply doing paper work but your vision blurs and you find yourself sitting a cubicle, just imagining what it would have been like to be in the military in the 1940's. Your gaze travels down to your striped pants, they remind you of those times because they were inspired by them. Most officer uniforms were colored with khaki (beige) because it was the most common, the color of dust. However it soon became apparent that a new fabric needed to be used to protect the soldiers from heat, that became Drill Cloth. It has a diagonal biased weave, very sturdy, and has been used (still does) for a variety of uses. It was used as sails for boats, tarp for tents, and even cloth to protect furniture. Drill Cloth has a variety of uses outside of the military but for the soldiers it was to protect against heat during wars. Nowadays, it's still used as well as Duck Canvas (another popular fabric.) Yet this pair is made from neither because it is for everyday wear and you want to be comfortable. If you want that military flair without those drab colors, then this pant is for you! The cool indigo and white alternating stripes make it unique amongst others and the buttons are beautiful touch, just a slight contrast. These are lightweight blue and white striped chinos based on the 1940's design for the British military. They feature a five pocket design, no patch pockets on the back, with dual button flap closures. There is a button fly, no zippers here! The buttons are a beautiful shade of cobalt and have a nice texture to them. There is an indigo chambray trim on the inside of the pants. The color makes these a perfect pair for spring and summer! So what are you waiting for? Go grab a pair! Need one for your legs? Here you go: RRL Officer Chino |
