ITEM OF THE WEEK Hot coal is scooped into a square shovel, you turn, then toss it into a raging fire behind you. The fire burns the coal up, it sends the smoke billowing through the air as the cart you stand upon wobbles from the train moving. Or you find yourself inside the conductor booth at the front, keeping time on your pocket watch so that you're not late to arrive at the platform. Railroaders and Engineers wore pin striped vests starting around the 1850s. It was a standard color combination for their particular class and with one look you could tell if they work for a railroad or were an engineer. It was a fascinating period to look at and to this day you can still wear pin striped vests, hats, shirts, trousers, overalls, etc. But without a bit of knowledge those items mean nothing. So here is, yet, another piece of history to add to you collection. It features four patch pockets on the front with a pin striped fabric that has been washed out slightly on the shoulder area to show it as a time-worn piece. It's beautiful with contrasting black buttons and the fabric was turned horizontal for the flap of the patch pockets. What is not shown here, is a hidden patch pocket on the inside to keep you most valuable items such as a metal cigarette case, flask, or wallet. There is a buckle on the backside for minor adjustment to make it a bit more tailored. Your wardrobe will thank you for adding this lovely piece to your collection and you won't regret it either. If you work hard and keep up-to-date on our blog then you'll also find out that you can wear it as a Halloween Costume too! It's far more rewarding to dress up as someone from the 1800s while still able to wear your clothes every day without looking like a fool. Isn't that the best? Two for one! And no one but you will know that little secret. So what are you waiting for? Go and get one right now! We promise that you won't regret it! Need to locate one for you? Here you go: Wilkes Vest |
