Each time period in history has its own set of clothing that is associated with that era but the one thing that stands out amongst all the clothing of history has to be the work wear industry. These clothes were designed to simply be utilitarian, there was no reason for them to have embellishments on their clothing since they were used only for work. Miners would leave their overalls in the mines when they left as there was no reason to wear those overalls outside of the mines, they didn't mine inside their homes so why take the clothing with them? It made sense back then but in the present time, wearing old worn out clothing is a remembrance of a time gone past.
Each industry had its own set of specific clothing associated with the industry, miners wore overalls, dockmen wore wabash and stifel fabrics, fisherman wore aran knit pullovers, railman wore hickory striped fabrics, farmers wore twill coats, aviators wore shearling jackets, etc. The list goes on and on and with each industry comes a new set of fabrics that they wore. But as time goes on, fashion ideals evolve and so more industries opened up where certain heavy types of fabric were no longer needed and people began to wear denim jackets and tapered jeans with simple white t-shirts. As time moves forward so does fashion but there are some things in fashion that never move forward, will never go out of style, and that is anything that falls under the category of "Vintage Work Wear."
Wabash and stifel were actually a company that produced a specific type of fabric but that will be covered in the future, this type of fabric is still sought after even though there are only replicas being made of it. But there is so much more to each profession that it will need to be covered in installments just to organize everything. After all, when searching for information, the more organized it is, the easier it is to find what you're looking for; so if your willing to learn something new then wait a bit and we'll be on the road to discovery.
As stated before, time period clothing has a lot of information hiding in it and we're going to sift through it all so that you can choose only the ideals that fit your mold. Since there are so many time periods to choose from, we're going to go in chronological order starting from the beginning in the 1800's. It's a good place to start, a true time when work was all a man needed to get by, long before any other distractions were available, and he worked hard to provide for his family. It was a simple time but that doesn't mean that their fashion was simple so we'll start with the 1800's as there are not only work wear inspired fashions but also specific pieces that are based on the military of that time as well. We'll cover it all but that's for next time, for now this is simply an introduction with what to expect in the near future.
